World Hoop Day

The next World Hoop Day is coming up on Saturday 4 October 2025!

World Hoop Day is an international holiday where people gather to hoop for health, peace, love and joy. Originally World Hoop Day was  also a non-profit charity that gave away hoops  to children around the world in need.

Started by ‘Hoopin’ Annie, it was first held on the 6th day of the 6th month of 2006 and the pattern continued on from there, with subsequent days being held on  -  7.7.07 / 8.8.08 / 9.9.09 / 10.10.10 / 11.11.11 / 12.12.12!

After 2012  it was decided that the first Saturday of October would be World Hoop Day from then on.

From 2010 – 2016 Tink Mcquillin created a choreographed hoop dance that people from around the world would practice and perform on World Hoop Day, as well as gift hoops and spin the joy of hooping wherever they lived.

Participants (including me!) would send Tink our videos and she’d piece them together as one. Dedication!

I became a World Hoop Day Ambassador often gifting hoops, and running free workshops teaching the dance. Then on World Hoop Day we would get together for some Hoop Jamming and perform the dance together.

World Hoop Day is all about celebrating our love of the hula hoop and all it encompasses - bringing together community, making people joyous, creating playfulness and most importantly putting smiles on people’s faces.

So mark your calendars and stay tuned -  for wherever I am on Word Hoop Day there will be something happening!

Until then, grab a cuppa and settle in to watch this video of World Hoop Day in Sydney on 12.12.12 - it was really a special day!
